Forbidden Flame
Instrumentation: 5.0 octave marimba
Forbidden Flame is a dark and emotional marimba chorale that represents a love for a person that you know deep in your heart won’t work out in the long run. The first part starts with a very low, dark melody that gives the imagery of a dark room with one singular candle sitting in the center (m. 1 - m. 27). The building of tension in the second section represents the love in someone’s heart that has built up overtime (m. 27 - m. 52). The climax is the realization that this person that you love so much won’t be with you, and the thought of the love that you have for them not being able to last weighs heavy on your heart (m. 52 - m. 59). The ending imagery is of the flame in the center of the room, the love in your heart, slowly diminishing because it will not last in the long run (m. 59 - the end).
